Guardian angel spirit is very numerous in many tales. According to legend, she receives the priceless items she lends to the locals back. A hunter who met the enigma in person has described the experience. He claimed to be deep inside Mariang Makiling's home woodland hunting a wild boar. Fearing he wouldn't see the boar again, the hunter dove in after it as it smashed into some bushes. When he stood up, he noticed a small cabin and saw his victim enter it.

The hunter felt compelled to follow her. While he was sitting, she served him a porridge that he had never really tried before. After eating he felt healed. Maria Makiling filled his salakot with ginger, while he was walking he felt that his hat was growing heavier that is why he threw the other pieces of ginger in a way. When he arrived at home he found out that the salakot, instead of containing ginger, her husband claimed that it contained gold.

Maria Makiling was more compassionate. A young farmer who appeared to be blessed every day once lived. His livestock was always in good health, and no disaster ever affected his land. The boy himself had a nice heart and a straightforward outlook on life. However, he remained reserved and kept most of his peculiar activities to himself, including regular excursions into Mariang Makiling's woods. But the terrible time arrived, the armies came and recruited unmarried young men who were in good condition. His mother arranged for him to marry a beautiful daughter. He came to Maria Makiling’s wood one last time before his marriage. Maria makiling gave him jewelry that he will give to his girl but the girl did not wear it during the wedding day. Maria Makiling was never seen by the peasants again, nor was her humble hut ever rediscovered.
