March 4 and 5, 2027
Michael Richartz Center, University of San Carlos, Cebu
The AI in Language Research International Conference (AILRIC) brings together researchers, practitioners, and scholars working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human language. The conference welcomes work in linguistics, natural language processing (NLP), speech technology, and related areas, with particular interest in research that advances the analysis, processing, and generation of human languages.
AILRIC 2027 is organized by the De La Salle University College of Computer Studies – Advanced Research Institute for Informatics, Computing, and Networking (AdRIC), through its Center for Language Technologies (CeLT), in partnership with the University of San Carlos Department of Computer, Information Sciences, and Mathematics.
The conference provides a venue for researchers to present their work, exchange ideas, build collaborations, and connect with colleagues from different institutions and disciplines. Previous events organized by the center have covered a wide range of NLP and language technology topics and have featured invited speakers from the Philippines and abroad.

Paper Submission
October 31, 2026
Acceptance Notification
November 27, 2026
Camera-Ready Deadline
December 11, 2026
Submissions should describe unpublished completed original work. Authors intending to submit should follow the two-column ACL format and may consist of up to six (6) pages of content, excluding references and appendices. Please note that AILRIC is not an ACL event; the ACL template is adopted solely for formatting consistency. Authors must use the template (A4 size) available at:
For .docx file: https://2023.aclweb.org/calls/style_and_formatting/
No page number should appear in the paper. Submissions will be judged based on relevance, technical strength, significance and opportunities, and interest to the attendees. As the reviewing will be blind, authors must not indicate their names and affiliations in the papers. Papers must be submitted through the Easy Chair Conference System:
Accepted papers will be presented orally or as posters as determined by the committee. Oral papers and abstracts of poster papers will be included in the proceedings.
Select papers presented at AILRIC 2027 will be invited for submission to the Philippine Computing Journal, subject to the journal’s peer-review process.
The Student Research Workshop (SRW) at AILRIC 2027 provides a dedicated venue for undergraduate and graduate students to present work-in-progress, exploratory studies, and small-scale projects in the area of AI and language research.
The workshop aims to foster early-stage research development by offering students the opportunity to receive constructive feedback from peers and senior researchers, while engaging with the broader AILRIC community.
Submissions may be less mature than full conference papers but should clearly articulate:
The research problem or motivation
The methodology or approach
Initial findings (if available)
Challenges, limitations, and next steps
Submission dates coincide with AILRIC 2027 and must follow the prescribed template. Submissions will be made through the same EasyChair submission site as the main conference, with authors selecting the Student Research Workshop (SRW) track.
Papers presented at the AILRIC 2026 Student Research Workshop may be resubmitted to the AILRIC 2027 SRW provided that the new submission contains at least 30% substantial new or revised content. The previous SRW presentation must be properly cited, and the paper should clearly state that it is an improved and extended version of the work presented at AILRIC 2026. The additional content may include, for example, new experiments, additional data, improved methods, further analysis, or substantially developed results and discussion.
Spell checking is one of the most familiar applications of natural language processing. Filipino, however, presents several interesting challenges for automatic spelling correction because of its rich word-formation processes, extensive borrowing from other languages, and spelling patterns that may vary in actual use.
The AILRIC 2027 Shared Task on Filipino Spell Checking aims to encourage the development and evaluation of Filipino spell-checking systems guided by the orthographic and spelling rules of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF).
Participants will be asked to:
Follow KWF guidelines in determining accepted and corrected forms
Use publicly available data or create their own Filipino spelling dataset
Develop a system that can identify misspelled Filipino words
Suggest appropriate corrections for detected errors
Evaluate the performance of the system using appropriate metrics
Discuss common error patterns, difficult cases, and the limitations of the approach
The task is intentionally open-ended so that participants can explore different methods, including:
Dictionary- and rule-based approaches
Edit distance and string similarity
Character- and subword-level models
N-gram and statistical language models
Neural and transformer-based models
Context-sensitive spelling correction
Morphology-aware approaches
Hybrid approaches combining linguistic rules and machine learning
Large language model-based approaches
Participants are also encouraged to look closely at Filipino-specific spelling issues, such as borrowed words, affixation, reduplication, word formation, commonly confused spellings, and other cases covered by KWF orthographic guidelines.
Submission dates coincide with AILRIC 2027 and must follow the prescribed template. Submissions will be made through the same EasyChair submission site as the main conference, with authors selecting the "Shared Task: Filipino Spell Checking" track.
