US Census Extraction Tables, Census Comparison Tables, Research Log, and Research Report Template

US Federal Census Extraction Tables

The tables below can be downloaded or copied for your use. Alter them any way that would be useful to you. I have set them up to capture the data I geneally use.

These forms are saved as Google Sheets.

Census Comparison Tables

These tables can be used to trace a family over time. The 1850-1840 table and the 1840-1830 table are filled out with examples in green text to show how they work. Just clear those cells and use as you wish. These tables are saved as Google Sheets.

Research Log

Explanations and examples for the use of this form are noted with green text. Remove and alter the log to fit your needs.

Getting in the habit of using a research log can help organize your research time from the outset. Be as simple or detailed as you want in your log. Record the searches that found the information you wanted and the searches that were unsuccessful. This helps you not look over and over for the same information in the same source.

For a much more detailed log check out the fabulous Research Log with citation and souce resources at Genealogy Bargains: https://genealogybargains.com/free-genealogy-cheat-sheets/

Research Report Template

A Research Report is not only a good way to present your work to a relative, friend, or client. It is also a way to structure your findings and to set out your reasoning on why you have reached a certain conclusion with your research. Again, use the sections that work for you and ignore those that don't. This is a Microsoft Word document.
