About Me

I won Emerson's Teacher of the Year in 2014

I'm Jennifer Wolfe - often know as 'mamawolfe' by my students. I LOVE my job helping young 7th, 8th, and 9th graders learn how amazing they really are.

I spend the school day teaching kids how to read, write, think, communicate and hopefully have so much fun they forget they're in school! This year I teach English 7, AVID 8, AVID 9, I and am the AVID Coordinator and the English Dept. Leader.

I'm also a Google Certified Educator 2, and train educators all over the country on how to be better digital teachers and learners. I love technology!

When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me outdoors with my two adult children, walking my 16-pound dog Cola, exploring new countries and cities with my husband, or baking bread and working in my backyard garden at home.

I'm a reader, a writer, a traveler, a teacher, and a lifelong learner.

My heroine

Maya Angelou made a profound impact on my life. She was the kind of woman I would love to be - strong, wise, funny, articulate and kind.

This is my favorite quote.

A favorite author

Toni Morrison is one of my all time favorite authors. I've read all her books, my favorite being Beloved.

Cola

This is Cola, my 16 pound ball of fury. He may not look fiesty, but he is! He just turned 14 years old in July.

Carmel, CA

One of my favorite places in the world is Carmel, CA. My family has lived there for almost 100 years! Walking on the beach at sunset with my daughter and doggie is awesome!

Our classroom

If we were in room A-1, this is what it would look like. I love my room to be full of books, college banners, more books - and it smells good, like lavender, too!

My motto

I believe that we are better together, that black lives matter, and in treating each other with empathy and kindness - always.

Our classroom

Our classroom should have comfy seats, big and small tables, folding chairs, stools, wobble seats and even a big cozy armchair that spins!

Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of my favorite places to visit. Since 2010 I have taken my own children and groups of students to help build schools, work with teachers and kids, and improve the education system. I can't wait to go back!

Indonesia

In 2011-12 I worked on a U.S. Department of Education fellowship to study global learning. Part of my work meant I got to teach at Insan Cendekia - a private school in Jakarta, Indonesia.

My family is super important to me. My husband, John is a guitar teacher. We both grew up in Davis and attended U.C. Berkeley. I studied English!

My daughter lives in Utah - she went to Chavez, Emerson, DHS and Westminster College. She's a graphic designer/marketing person and has a double Doodle named Ellie (I call her my 'grand-doodle').

My son also went to Chavez, Emerson, DHS and attends Babson College in Boston. He is studying entrepreneurial business there, but due to COVID-19 he moved home and is doing college online.

I'm starting my 30th year of teaching middle school! I actually WENT to Emerson the first year it opened in 1979...and my history class was in the room I teach in right now! I'm sad to not see students face to face right now, but also excited to teach online because I LOVE TECHNOLOGY! We are going to have FUN!

~Sending virtual hugs,
