Students in DMCA’s newly launched Academic Course Enhancement program (ACE) will have a casual discussion with Fr. Mark Begly, pastor at Our Mother of Sorrows, about ways in which they can call on their faith and gifts to develop as leaders in their church, at school and in their neighborhoods.

St. Benedict Rectory, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown
The students will continue their discussions on spiritual leadership during an informal discussion with Fr. David Peles, pastor at St. Benedict’s. Launched earlier this year, the ACE program provides a range of enrichment opportunities and academic support to eligible students in grades 4-6.

DMCA East Campus, 2306 Bedford Street, Johnstown (Grades PreK-6)
SFU Institute for Energy staff will lead hands-on activities related to weather, including an analysis of an array of weather data uploaded to Weather Underground from recently installed DMCA weather stations. Data will be used to develop weather forecasting presentations that will be videotaped so that students can simulate televised weather reporting.

Judge Pesto will talk with ACE students about what it means to be a leader and how they can begin to develop their own unique leadership qualities.

Larry Olek, Distinguished Toastmaster, a designation given to only 1 percent of the 345,000 members of Toastmasters clubs in 142 countries, and long-time mentor through Johnstown Rotary, will share simple communication and presentation strategies that can help students promote leadership.
