Engaging in community life not only fosters a sense of belonging but also enhances opportunities for personal growth, social interaction, and skill development. By emphasizing community living and participation in transition planning, we can help students with disabilities build the confidence and skills necessary to thrive in their communities. The rationale for focusing on community living and participation for transition students with disabilities is grounded in the belief that active engagement in community life is fundamental to personal development and well-being. Participating in community activities—such as volunteering, joining local organizations, or attending social events—allows students to develop essential life skills, establish meaningful relationships, and enhance their social networks.
