Welcome to our writing page. Here you will find information for first grade developing writers.

Below is the list of editing expectations for first grade. These are the editing behaviors we are working to master by the end of the first grade.

  1. Reread to check how it sounds (in your head and out loud).
  2. Start each sentence with a capital letter.
  3. Capitalize names and a few proper nouns.
  4. Capitalize the word "I".
  5. Spell all word wall words correctly.
  6. Use spaces between words.
  7. Use the correct ending punctuation.

In first grade, students are taught about writing for an audience and purpose. Writing is included in Reading Language Arts curriculum. It is aligned to the Common Core State Standards.

Students will develop their skills to write these types of writing in first grade.
