My name is Chrissy Johnson. This is my 19th year teaching at Brook Park. I taught second and third grade before moving into my role as a reading specialist.

I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with an Elementary Education Degree and later earned a Master's Degree in Reading from University of Illinois at Chicago.

I am looking forward to working with your child in the Reading Superstars program and supporting them in both reading and writing.

Reading Superstars

This program provides small group, supplementary literacy intervention in reading, writing and phonics/word study. During intervention sessions, your child will be exposed to both fiction and non-fiction from a variety of engaging, leveled books.

The intervention sessions will occur four or five days a week for 30-40 minutes. The lessons will be given in addition to the regular, whole group reading instruction your child receives in their classroom.

Students’ time in the program depends heavily on where they are currently as a reader and where they need to go. Some students will spend a short time in the intervention program, (4-8 weeks) where others will continue in the program throughout the school year. Each student will be continuously monitored to determine appropriate placement in the program.
