Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)

This program provides small group, supplementary literacy intervention in reading, writing and phonics/word study. During intervention sessions, your child will be exposed to both fiction and non-fiction from a variety of engaging, leveled books.

The intervention sessions will occur five days a week for 30-35 minutes, which is included in their 60 minute reading block. During your child’s time in the LLI program, he will be bringing home a “Take Home Book” and possibly other at home activities in their yellow folder. As a way of checking progress for reading, the folder with also include a blank monthly calendar. There will be a number on each date indicating the number of the book your child must read at home. Please make sure your child reads the book at home each night. I ask that parents put initials in the space with the number so I know that your child has read the book. I also encourage you to include the book in their Reading Log as part of their weekly homework packet. return the book and calendar in the yellow folder each day. Also, make your best effort to keep these books safe from any harm!

Each day when your child comes to class, I will check to see if there are initials. Then your child can put a sticker on their calendar. If he reaches the goal I have set for the month, your child will receive a small surprise, such as a spirit stick, stickers, or book. The students get excited about working towards a goal in reading class. The main purpose is for students to feel confident with their reading and to enjoy it. When the students reread the books, they are gaining word knowledge, building phonetic skills, and enhancing their fluency. Asking questions during and after reading promotes meaningful conversation and helps with comprehension as well.

I look forward to seeing all of my students work hard and make progress!
