We are off to a busy start to our 2025-2026 school year. We are slowly working on class routines, getting and keeping ourselves organized, and learning how to switch from one class to another.
Our first unit in math will focus on fractions. We will be learning about unit and equivalent fractions, how to simplify fractions, and how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. You will notice when your child brings home an independent practice sheet, that the front of the sheet will focus on the skill for the day, and the back of the sheet will review previously learned concepts. We are also working on refreshing our multiplication and division skills. Students knowing their multiplication and division facts, is a vital part of success. Throughout this year, we will constantly be using our knowledge of multiplication and division. Knowing these facts will greatly help student success.
In science we have been learning about the Scientific Method which are the steps taken when doing an experiment. This process allows for consistence when performing an experiment. The saying "Quickly Run Home Eating Donuts and Cider", will help us to remember each of these steps. We have already learned about testable and non-testable questions and research steps of the Scientific Method. We will be learning about making a hypothesis and conducting a valid experiment this week and next week.
In social studies students have been learning about different ancient civilizations.
In our Wonders reading series, we are currently working on the reading skills of cause and effect, author's purpose, and identifying homographs.. Our first main story centers on Theodore Roosevelt and his love of nature. We have been correlating President Roosevelt's love of nature, to different ways we enjoy speding time in nature. To help us better understand the story, we have also been learning about Yosemite National Park where this story takes place.
In ELA, students are working on writing a rough draft of a Pioneer Days paper using their experience from our field trip.
