General Classroom Expectations

Reading

In third grade, students will need to read a minimum of 20 minutes a night. Similar to last year, students will take a quiz on the book they have read and points are associated with each test. The reading goal for each student is based on their current reading level. Upon attaining the goal, there is an end of the month incentive. There will be a reading log for parents to sign weekly. They will be turned in every Monday (or Tuesday if there is no school on Monday). Parent involvement in reading helps students become successful in attaining their reading goal and making growth in their reading skills

Math

This year your child will be learning multiplication and division facts. By the end of the year, our goal is for each student to have mastered addition, subtraction and  multiplication facts.   The thought is that at home on Tuesdays and Thursdays students practice math facts using flash cards or on an app.  There are some websites found under the "Math" menu on the home page. We will also be sending a math sheet home on Mondays and Wednesdays.  The Monday sheet is due Wednesday and the Wednesday sheet is due Friday. Please help your student with these as needed. This math work should take 10-15 minutes each night.

Spelling

In third grade, your child will have a spelling list to practice each week. Words will be sent home each Friday for the next week. Tests will be the last day of the week. There will be certain weeks where a spelling test is not administered. For example, some weeks we will focus on social/science or during MCA testing time.

Behaviors

We begin our year by allowing our students to take part in creating and reviewing classroom and school expectations. The expectations are centered around the traits of a Huskie Hero and fit under the pillars of being Kind, Strong and Well. We also have a rule to HAVE FUN while learning!
