Every student needs:
to be exposed to rich vocabulary
to participate in the ongoing work of collecting and exploring the meaning of new and exciting words.
to understand how word parts affect word meaning (roots/affixes)
to have a working understanding of academic vocabulary
What about the students that still need to work on spelling?
Some students may still need time for word work that is about understanding spelling patterns. This work will be done using word sorts that focus on a particular pattern and resources that will help to build word knowledge.
