Final Reflections: How is Space the third teacher?
I never thought of space as a teacher, but am quickly learning that a well thought out classroom allows for so much to happen. The layout of the room allows for students to learn from one another and allows for quiet individualized learning when needed. A quick rearranging room or area allows for students to spontaneously be able to create projects or have those discussions that help with their learning. Tables and work areas allow for students to work and learn with one another. Big white boards are not just for teachers, but also for students. They can write their ideas on the board and work together to solve problems. A creative station area allows for students to work with different materials and to creatively be able to explore. Having a genius hour section in the room allows for student driven learning. Students can take pride and have a feeling of ownership within their classroom. Providing a welcoming and well thought out floor plan for a classroom would help students have that feeling of wanting to come to school and learn.
