Description: A one-semester course with a prerequisite of one year's participation in a high school music performance class or four years of private piano instruction. The course is designed for those students wishing to enhance their music performance skills through increased understanding of music fundamentals and theory. Topics to be covered include: note reading, time and key signatures, rhythm recognition, scale construction, chords, manuscript skills, melodic harmonization and composition. Students will listen to recorded examples, write music and perform some of their own works in class.
