About Mrs. Brewer

Alyssa M. Brewer

EL-5 General Music Teacher/HS Choir Accompanist

Rio Community School District

My name is Alyssa Brewer and I am thrilled to be your child's music teacher. This year, I begin my 7th year here in Rio and my 28th year overall.

I graduated from UW-SP in 1994 with degrees in K-12 General Music Instruction and 6-12 Choral Music Instruction. I spent the first four years of my college studies as a piano performance major and piano is still my first love. I received certificates in Orff Level 1 and Level 2 in 1998 and 1999 and have used the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music instruction ever since.

What is the Orff-Schulwerk approach?

The Orff Schulwerk, or simply the Orff Approach, is a developmental approach used in music education. It combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to child's world of play. It was developed by the German composer Carl Orff (1895–1982) and colleague Gunild Keetman during the 1920s. Carl Orff worked until the end of his life to continue the development and spread of his teaching method.

The Orff Approach is now used throughout the world to teach students in a natural and comfortable environment.

Currently, I reside in Baraboo, WI with my husband, 2 of our 7 children, our four great danes, Jinx , Fezzik, Suniva, and Skadi and our 20 chickens. I am also a grandmother of two, Dylan (14) and Lilly Ann (3).
