Course Description:
During this course, students will acquire the knowledge and skills to maintain lifelong fitness goals. Students will achieve this through both fitness (AKA fitness Gram) and sport-based learning throughout the course. Additionally, students will have opportunities to measure and analyze their individual skills and compare them to class data using fitness test scores taken throughout the course.
Common PE Expectations:
If you are hurt or feel unwell, tell your teacher!! You will be sent to the nurse or sit out if you are hurt.)
Our health office will evaluate injuries or illnesses.
If medically excused from PE, a student must provide a doctor’s note to return.
Optional: If your student is very active, we suggest getting a specific breakdown in your doctor’s note of what they can and cannot do. (Ex. Student is allowed to walk, do upper body movements, or no contact)
Not allowed in class: Food of any kind, including gum, and backpacks
Chromebook stays in a locker, no cell phone.
We will follow the school’s cell phone policy (cell phone is turned into the office).
Dress Daily (Athletic Uniform no sandals or Crocs)
All game calls made by adults (PG staff) are final
Use appropriate language (No Cussing), and show good sportsmanship.
Engage in respectful words and actions with classmates and PG staff.
Keep appropriate athletic wear in your P.E. locker.
We will go out when the grass is damp in the morning (Extra pair of shoes and socks).
Ask permission to use the bathroom.
One student will be permitted at a time.
Keep your hands to yourself.
Be safe, responsible, respectful, and to have fun!
Behavior Guidelines:
Verbal warning/ Move away from the situation
Sit out Redirection (Go back into game play)
Sit out of activity, referral, contact home (Consequence as appropriate)
Trimester Grading Scale (5th-8th):
4 - Exceeding - The student is exceeding grade level expectations and independently demonstrates mastery beyond end-of-year expectations.
3 - Meeting - The student can independently demonstrate mastery and is meeting grade-level expectations.
2 - Developing - The student is developing toward grade-level expectations. With support, the student demonstrates grade-level expectations.
1 - Emerging - The student is emerging towards grade-level expectations.
Medical Policy:
If a student needs to be excused from Physical education due to illness or injury:
* First day with a parent note or note from the health office.
* The second day or longer will require a written note from a person licensed under the Medical Practice Act.
If medically excused from PE, a student must provide a doctor’s note to return.

If a student is excused from Physical Education for injury or illness, they are not allowed to participate in practices or games unless specified by doctor’s note.
Uniform Policy:
Must dress daily for PE in Grey Prairie Grove top (provided to students) with first and last name written on it. Students will wear athletic shorts or pants.
Not acceptable for physical education: jeans, khaki pants
Three no-dress cases will result in a referral and a consequence (detention).
Students should wear appropriate athletic shoes (safety)
We will go outside as much as possible, so sweatshirts are allowed, but P.E. shirts need to be worn underneath and shown to the teacher.
Daily Classroom Procedures:
After changing, remain in locker until the teacher leads you out into the gym.
Warm up with music on the specific lines, when music stops, find your attendance spot, you will be marked absent if you are not in your spot.
No one is allowed to leave the gymnasium without a teacher's permission.
Locker Room Expectations:
Please use the hallway entrance to enter through the locker room (you may not cut through the gymnasium).
Keep hands/feet to yourself.
Respect other students’ space.
Dress/change completely prior to exiting the locker room (into the gymnasium or passing period).
When entering the gymnasium, warm up with our daily routine right away.
Before exiting the locker room at the end of class, be seated on a bench until the bell rings.
Valuable Item(s): Keep them in your locker (gym) or hallway locker and make sure your locker is closed & locked. PG Staff/Schools are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Health Education Expectations
Always bring the following items:

Grading for Physical Education:
Daily/Weekly Learner Quality: The student is personally responsible and engaged during physical education and health.
The daily grade is out of 3 points. Learner quality will be given daily and will be the averaged at the end of the week.
Grading Verbiage: 3-Consistently, 2-Occasionally, 1-Seldom
Daily Learner Quality Grading Rubric:

Actively engage in all physical education activities (warm-up, lesson activities) without redirection
Consistent active participation in warm-ups and class activities while being safe.
Being prepared for physical education with expected PE shorts, shirt, and shoes.

With some (two) prompting, the student is moderately engaged in physical education.

Daily/Weekly Formative Standard Grading:
Students will receive a daily grade with the standards below of a 4,3,2,or 1. At the end of the week the average score will be graded as a formative assessment for that week.
