What are Fry Words?

Fry Words are a list of the most common words children see when they read.  They were created by Dr. Edward Fry and are based on words that appear most often in books, worksheets, and everyday reading.  Many Fry words are called sight words because children are encouraged to recognize them instantly, without sounding them out.
