Dear 5th grade families,
Welcome to an exciting school year! I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! My name is Erin Karlow, and I graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in (K-9) Elementary Education and a Language Arts Middle School endorsement. After graduation, I was a substitute teacher for School Districts 300, 158 and 47 for many years while I started a family.
I have 2 amazing kids! My daughter, Mikayla, is 14 years old and just graduated 8th grade. She has now begun her freshman year at Prairie Ridge High School. My son, Gavin, is 11 years old and is in 6th grade. I live with my husband of 17 years, my 2 kiddos, and our super silly dog named, Bella. I grew up in Schaumburg and moved out to Crystal Lake 20 years ago. In my free time, I love to hike, camp, or do just about anything that involves nature and being outside. I grew up playing softball, soccer, gymnastics, and cheer, so I like to be super active.
I started working at Prairie Grove Elementary/Junior High School 10 years ago as a long-term substitute teacher and was eventually hired as a full-time internal sub. During that time, I subbed in every classroom but long-term taught ELL (English Language Learners), 3rd grade, Kindergarten, 7th/8th cross-categorical special education, and I also taught 3rd-5th cross-categorical special education summer school. After being in many different classrooms for many years, I am so excited to finally have a classroom of my own. This is my 3rd year as a 5th grade teacher. Most of the students in the class have probably had me as their substitute or their siblings have had me as their teacher.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any reason throughout the school year. The best way to reach me will be through Class Dojo, email or telephone, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I am so excited about this school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Erin Karlow
