About Us

Primary Goal:

Greetings, fellow artists and performers! We are so excited to begin our third year of igniting the spark of creativity at Discovery High School. Our primary goal is to encourage and champion arts in education and empower students to explore the their own artistic expression.

In the Classroom:

We offer many opportunities to learn about the creative process. Students can lose themselves in the melodies and rhythms of the world by taking the "Music of the World" class. Students discover the art of storytelling and stagecraft in our TWO theatre classes. And students can harmonize their voice in our "Chorus" class.

Out of the Classroom:

Our artistic expression does not end when the bell rings. Step into the limelight with our after-school theater program, where you can bring your talents to life on a grand stage! Whether you are a seasoned performer or taking your first bow, our inclusive community welcomes all with open arms.

Our Vision:

The Performing Arts Club is not just a club; it's a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for the performing arts. Together, we create unforgettable memories, cultivate teamwork, and foster personal growth in a nurturing and supportive environment.

So, don your creative hats, tighten those dancing shoes, and let your inner star shine! Join us at the Performing Arts Club, where the journey of self-discovery through the arts awaits. We can't wait to witness your talents bloom and create magical moments together!

Our Classes

Choir

The high school concert choir class is designed for students to apply musical skills as they continue to create and experience music as a musical ensemble. Students will continue developing mastery of pitch counting, major and minor scales, and 4 part harmonies. Students will convey musical interpretation with the use of dynamics and phrasing, while incorporating facial expression and movement for refined presentation.

Music of the World

In this class, students will not only learn the fundamentals of music, how to create it, how to recognize it, and how to talk about it, but they will also have the chance to learn what differentiates various genres of music. We will prioritize reading and analyzing music as well as learning about music from different cultures around the world! Sure, you've heard of a piano or a guitar, but have you heard of a zither, an ocarina, or a sitar?

Acting I

Acting I will be a course that surveys the impact and importance of theatre from the world of the ancient Greeks to the present day. Students will gain an appreciation and understanding of the aesthetics and human aspects of Theatre. One of our main goals in this course (and in theatre) is to examine people amidst conflict, to this end; this course will allow students to appreciate the diversity of the human condition.

Acting II

Acting II will be a course that applies what was previously understood in Acting I. Throughout each semester we will choose a production to complete. This includes readingthrough different productions to find what works best for our community and budget as well as researching the necessary topics and procedures to see this production come to life. Everything that we do will be mostly in class with the understanding that the closer to the production we reach, the possibility for after school rehearsals increases.
