Have a look at this great picture. I LOVE THIS ONE.
The smallest units of the body – the cells – are individually too small to be seen by the naked eye (Try the microscope).
Many like cells together, form a tissue. Tissues are groups of cells with a common structure and function. There are four main tissues in the body – epithelium, muscle, connective tissue and nervous tissue.
Two or more kinds of tissues together form each of our organs, like the heart or lungs.
Many organs together form an organ system, like the digestive or respiratory system. All the organ systems together form an organism, such as a person, dog or blue whale.
All living things perform three vital functions: nutrition, interaction, and reproduction.
Nutrition is how living organisms obtain and use oxygen and nutrients, and eliminate waste products.
All living organisms reproduce. Reproduction
can be:
Asexual (a single living organism makes a new one, from a part of its body).
Sexual (a male and a female use their reproductive organs to produce a new living organism offspring).
