MYP

The MYP is an internationally benchmarked curriculum framework that is holistic, inclusive and rigorous and encourages our Year 7 - 10 students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The MYP at Dio enhances our learner-centred approach and provides an exciting framework through which we teach the New Zealand Curriculum. Dio MYP students are active learners who understand concepts as 'big ideas' for inquiry into real-world issues in global contexts. Higher-order thinking skills and skills for learning and life including communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking, self-management and research skills are developed through a range of age-appropriate learning engagements, feedback and authentic assessment in each unit of inquiry. 

The MYP comprises eight subject groups - Arts, Design, Mathematics, Individuals and societies, Language and literature, Language acquisition, Physical and health education and Sciences including disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning. Dio MYP students in Years 7, 8 and 9 undertake or initiate service learning resulting in service as action in the local or global community and Year 10 students work in groups to develop a culminating service-learning project: the MYP Community Project. Service and participating in service deeply reflects our Anglican identity at Dio and is encapsulated by our school motto "Ut serviamus".  

Diocesan MYP students develop international-mindedness by developing the attributes of the IB learner profile: inquirers, thinkers, knowledgeable, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. We believe these attributes help students to thrive, empathize with others and become responsible members of local, national and global communities.

As an IB school authorised to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and IB Diploma Programme (DP), the MYP at Diocesan School for Girls supports the dual pathways available in our Senior School. Our Year 10 MYP graduates will be well-prepared to undertake either the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA).
