Research skills is a class where you:
Investigate something that interests you
Learn to ask good questions
Choose the best information sources to answer your questions
Locate information using print and electronic sources
Use information sources to get the most out of them
Present the information results to others
Record where you found your information
Evaluate your own research process and the end result
Content for the course:
Two main topics for this class:
Internet safety- During this unit, we will be discussing how to keep our information and ourselves safe while using the internet, including healthy online relationships.
The Big 6 Research Process- During this unit, we will be discussing a process which allows us to break down a project to make it easier to research.
What do I believe?
As your teacher, I believe that all of you have the potential to be successful, and I look forward to working with you the next quarter. I promise to do my best to improve your knowledge and skills with research so that you are better prepared to cope with whatever challenges await you after school.

Provide you with the appropriate motivation.

Your Responsibilities:
Treat classmates and I with respect and care as individuals.
Attend class regularly and participate in daily activities.
Be cooperative and not disruptive.
Study and do what is asked of you.
Expectations:
In this class I expect you to:
Come to class on time and be prepared with a pencil/pen, your planner, paper, a folder or section of a notebook that is just used for this class, a library book or AR book, and any assigned homework that is due.
Fill out your planner in every class. Planners will be checked weekly.
Do your work, assignments and homework neatly, on task, and on time.
Respect the teacher’s right to teach and the students’ right to learn. Be considerate and courteous of others. Rudeness will not be tolerated.
Participate in class by staying on task, being a good listener, and discussing respectfully.
Follow all school policies and expectation for behavior.
Find out about something that really interests you.
Consequences:
If you are not meeting the expectations, I will:
Discuss the problem with you in class or after class.
Make a plan with you to correct the problem.
Call your parents/guardians to discuss the problem.
Write you up, so that Mr. Rogers may discuss the problem with you.
Grades:
I will base your Quarter grade on:
Daily assignments in class.
Research practice activities.
Quizzes.
Individual projects.
Possibly group projects.
