Teacher Biography
I would like to take a minute and properly introduce myself and my background in education. At the forefront of who I am and the role that i hold with high importance is that I am the father of 4 beautiful children Jansen, Braden, Tretyon and Quincee and a husband to my wonderful wife Julaine. We love to recreate in the outdoors and participate in activities that involve the beauty that surrounds us.
I am currently teaching in Dillon Elementary School as a Technology instructor. I am entering my 25th year in education and my 8th in the Dillon Elementary School District. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business Information and Technology Education at the University of Montana in May of 1999. I was also able to finish my Masters Degree in Technology Education from Lesley University in 2005.
Throughout my high school teaching and college career I have been fortunate to work with children in various capacities such as coaching, teaching, working as a Scoutmaster, and as a DECA advisor. These experiences have helped me realize that teaching is a rewarding profession. I have received internal gratification through the roles I have had with children. Through these experiences I have grown as a teacher and obtained confidence in my ability to form relationships with students and the ability to motivate them to learn.
I have an extensive background in business and technology throughout my teaching career. I have taught Marketing, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Economic and Computer Applications throughout my teaching career. In these courses I use technology infused within the curriculum to enhance the learning objectives of each lesson. Technology is an important part of our society and it is important that all of our students are equipped with the basic skills necessary to operate in the evolving world around us. I have been a DECA Advisor for 16 years for over 650 students. DECA is a student leadership organization that focuses on teaching students leadership and business skills in the context of a competition.
My first teaching job at Colton High School I taught a combination of keyboarding, economics and computer applications. In this venture I was able to lead a group of students in developing a business model that worked collaboratively with our Science department to sell organic lettuce to consumers. My students created the business plan and implement sales presentations with the retailers and managed a website for this growing business. This was a key component for me to see the importance of hands on education for students and how as educators it is important to be able to create relevant learning opportunities for our students. I have extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite as well as the Google Drive and Docs programs. This knowledge will be a foundation to continue to build upon as my teaching career develops.
