Project Details

Study Purpose

This study will build upon the MTO's previously completed Preliminary Design and will be documented in a Design and Construction Report (DCR) that refines the Preliminary Design to an implementation level of detail for construction. The DCR documents the Detail Design, consultation undertaken and environmental impacts and mitigation measures.

Study Process

The study is subject to Ontario's Environmental Assessment Act and will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of MTO's Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000) as a Group "B" project. Group "B" projects are considered major improvements to existing transportation facilities.

A Design and Construction Report will be prepared to document the study and will be made available for a 30-day public comment period prior to construction start.

This figure outlines the study area for the project. The study area includes the Highway 11/12/Coldwater Road West interchange, Highway 11/12/Old Barrie Road East, Highway 11/12 between both interchanges and some of Highway 11 past the Old Barrie Road interchange. The study area also includes portions of Highway 11/12/Coldwater Road and Highway 11/12/Old Barrie Road, just west and east of both interchanges.

Project Timeline

Notice of Study Commencement - June 2026
Detail Design and preparation of the Design and Construction Report (DCR) - Fall 2026
Notice of Completion (30-day public comment period the DCR) - Winter 2026
Construction - Anticipated to begin in 2027, subject to approvals
