1st nine weeks academic activities
AUGUST 26 - OCTOBER 17, 2024
English language arts
For the 1st nine weeks, students will have intense and deep discussion on the following topics:
Analyzing the Development of a Central Idea
Summarizing Informational Text
Citing Evidence to Make Inferences
Analyzing Comparisons and Analogies
Analyzing Categories
Analyzing Dialogue and Incidents in Stories and Drama
Determining Themes
Summarizing Literary Texts
Everyday, they will read various passages and answer comprehension questions. The questions are aligned with the standards that will be tested in EOG. During Fridays, they are expected to complete 25-item test. These tests will be online and are timed. In addition, test-taking strategies will be taught.
Social studies
Students will learn about the geography themes. They will be working with maps and locate places. The geographical location of North Carolina will be studied. The lessons will also focus on the colonization of England here in the US.

Hi! This is Elaine Alisin, the 8th graders' English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher! I graduated from Ateneo de Davao University in the Philippines. I have been in the teaching field for eight years. It has always been my passion to teach and help kids to follow their dreams. Every kid has an opportunity to be successful with support and motivation and I am thrilled to be of help to you this year!
