Dignity First Innovations was created out of a need I witnessed firsthand as an ER nurse.
Throughout my work in acute care, I saw how pregnancy loss was often handled without a consistent, dignified approach especially in fast-paced environments like the emergency department and prehospital settings. In many cases, there simply weren’t the right tools available to care for these babies in a way that reflected the gravity and humanity of the situation.
With a background in both nursing and social work, I felt a strong pull to create something better. Something that could support not only safe handling, but also compassion, intention, and respect during these moments.
That’s where the idea for Fetal Remains Dignity Boxes began.
These kits are designed to provide a more thoughtful and standardized way to care for pregnancy loss in hospital and EMS settings. The initial design focuses on babies 20 weeks gestation and under, with larger options currently in development. Each kit includes both practical components for secure handling, as well as supportive elements for families and staff.
This project is still in the early stages, and I am actively working with healthcare professionals to refine the design and move toward pilot implementation.
My hope is simple: that no family, and no healthcare provider, is left without a more compassionate and meaningful way to navigate these moments.
