In the case of medical emergencies like accidents, employment injury and other life-threatening conditions then a worker who is registered with ESIC can be eligible for cashless treatments. This benefit can be availed in the ESI hospitals in your city and in the hospital that holds tie-up with ESIC. The cashless treatment for an emergency was suspended in the past but later re-introduced for the benefit of workers. Employers must go for esi registration online so that they get a unique id for each of their employees.
Nearly 3 crores of workers are registered under the ESI act, and thus a large population is under this health insurance scheme. Cashless treatment is nothing but the beneficiary, or the worker who is injured or suffering from serious health issues can get treated without paying money from his/her pocket. The ESIC takes care of the entire medical expenses during emergency health conditions.
If the worker is admitted in the ESI hospitals, then the cashless benefits can be availed immediately. If the worker is admitted in a hospital that holds tie-up with ESI hospitals, then you would be directly offered the stabilizing treatment. Meanwhile, the hospital seeks permission through email in the respective SMC office for further continuation of the treatment. The SMC would set up a committee and designate an official who can visit the tie-up hospital immediately. The official visits the tie-up hospital on the next working day and verifies the details of the patient. Thus the official authenticates the identity of the patient so that further treatment can be continued by providing a referral letter to the tie-up hospital.
