Data-driven approach: If you are using publicly available data: sample ideas/ issues that have data easily available
Youth-driven approach: If you want to engage in more open-ended discussion (will require the youth collect their own data): sample ideas based on current issues and problems in community
We followed the youth driven approach.
Engage youth in open discussion to identify community based issues that are personally meaningful and interesting to them and the need to advocate these issues.

Development time budget
Mechanism to rank the widgets
Based on the data roles the youth self identify, the youth first select widgets that would support them in their data advocacy.
They next rank them based on the importance of the widget for that role - this is to help them prioritize the widget development (they are given the number of development man hours to help them prioritize the widget) and for researchers to understand youth's priorities.
