We are a group of researchers and students at University of Pittsburgh with the goal to provide youth with the social learning experience that is best suited for them.
With the widespread use of the devices that collect data about every aspect of our life, civic data has become ever more accessible than before. This data provides the perfect opportunity for youth to participate in the decisions about the local communities that matter to them the most. And what better way to learn and practice community data advocacy than with your peers. The motivation of the work stems from providing the youth with the varied skills and tools to engage with data and use the insights to contribute to the decisions. This research is inspired to create these tools with the youth as designers, and experts working alongside researchers. This collaboration would highlight to the researchers what the youth need and what would be most helpful, while creating tools that can prepare youth for future employment opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) based fields.
We are researchers from the University of Pittsburgh who are passionate about teaching data advocacy to the youth to address challenges within their communities. We come from diverse backgrounds. We look forward to meeting you!
