Sparked by not feeling included and not being able to find work, the founders of the Coffee House of Tea, built this little hidden gem in the heart of Downtown Edmonton. It was created to fill a need for the disability community. As an all inclusive, and accessible welcoming space in need. We are advocates and educators, we are artists and creators, and we are entrepreneurs.
It has been a bit of a bumpy ride! But here we are, and we hope you can be part of our journey and our community!
One of the very first things you will notice in our shop is sliding doors to enter and there are no stairs! There are ramps in places where they are needed. The washrooms are all gender neutral and the door are certified by VADs Accessibility to make sure anyone has equal access!
We have a quiet space for folks who need that and a t-coil to make sure those who are hard of hearing with lots of access tools to make sure everyone can access our shop! It is a sensory friendly environment, with STEM toys accessible and head phones
The chairs automatically fold by voice or touch sensors to make it easier to access our tables which are also wider to make good space for those who are mobility users.
We have several ways to order! We always have at least half of our staff who speak in ASL and in our Imagination Space we also provide lessons on ASL for those interested in learning to speak ASL.
