Bio

I have over 20 years of experience in the UN, providing various geospatial information management services. I worked in Asia, Africa, Europe, and now the UN Headquarters. in my current role, I am leading the Geo-Analysis team at the GIS Section of the UNHQ. We provide thematic analysis and satellite image analysis products to our colleagues from various United Nations departments and offices. We also develop GIS-related strategies and policies for UN peace operations. Moreover, we manage the UN Open GIS Initiative, where I, together with my colleagues, oversee the development of Hybrid GIS Infrastructure and open-source based Geospatial analysis tools.

Before my assignment at the UNHQ, I was involved in developing and implementing Information Management and GIS program strategies, coordination with UN Agencies, NGOs and Government Institutions, and IM and GIS services to support humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. I have served as Information Management and GIS Officer in various UNHQ, DPKO, OCHA, UNDP, and UNICEF in New York, Timor-Leste, Darfur/Sudan, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan and Chechnya/the Russian Federation.

Having worked at the UN for various peacekeeping and humanitarian programs, I have developed a passion for research and discovering undelaying factors that cause conflicts and natural disasters through the prism of geospatial data, data analysis, and development of analytical models. Thus, I have decided to release my passion through Ph.D. work, and I was accepted into Ph.D. Programme in Data Science at the Sapienza University of Rime.

My professional and academic interests include geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and open-source data and technology.

My other interest include reading, cycling, running, scuba diving, and memorizing irrelevant facts from Wikipedia :-)
