Ottoman beds hinge on gas-lift pistons, calibrated in newtons to counterbalance the mattress. Done well, they rise smoothly even with a heavy mattress. Pistons are replaceable, meaning the mechanism can be renewed after years of use without replacing the frame. In mechanical terms, it’s a more serviceable system than fixed drawers.

Divan beds lean on simplicity, and Ottoman beds have become the design-forward option. Both of them have some great options for upholstery. For example, upholstered ottoman beds come in several types, like velvet, faux leather, and fabric.

Many of the beds come with higher headboards and sleeker side rails, meaning the storage solution doesn’t look like a compromise. For families, the difference in day-to-day use is obvious. Divan drawers are fine for quick access to small items. Ottoman storage suits larger, less frequently accessed belongings.

Both bed types answer the same question: how do you use the space under your bed. They are two different styles of storage solution for your bedroom. So, when will the beds be worth using?
