Mrs. Walters

Welcome to my 2nd grade classroom! I am THRILLED to have your child in my class this year! Here is a bit about myself:

I attended Western Illinois University to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. A few years later, I completed my Master's degree in Reading and Literacy through Benedictine University, which has certified me as a Reading Specialist and given me the tools and knowledge to become a more effective reading teacher. My students think it is so neat that I continue to learn new things, just like them!

I am currently beginning my 15th year at Highland School. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, which speaks to my love for working with young learners. From the very first day of school, I exude lots of positive energy and immediately work towards building a sense of classroom community. I believe that showing students how to set and achieve personal goals allows them to recognize their full potential and strive for growth.

Working as a team, Mrs. Kehoe and I enjoy incorporating technology into the classroom and are always sharing ideas with one another to ensure student success. We are so excited to be integrating the 1:1 Program into our instruction again this year. While I am extremely lucky to have my true passion also be my career, I have many hobbies and interests outside of work. My husband, Phil, and I are musicians. We enjoy playing music together, as Phil plays guitar and I play piano. When I am by myself, you can find me snuggling up with a good book, shopping for shoes, or walking along the nature paths in my neighborhood.
