When you work on writing you have a few different choices. Each week you will be given a different writing prompt. You can either look for it on the board or under the work on writing section in your "Showbie" account. You may either type your writing in the application "Pages" or if you would rather hand write it in your journal you can as well.
This is a chance to work with both spelling and word wall words. You may choose one of the following activities from below, get your materials, and begin working Click on the following link to get to the words that you can work with!
Spelling Sentences
Write 10 sentences using one spelling word in each sentence. You may use Word Wall words too!
Hidden Words!
Write a spelling word or Word Wall word. Next to each word, write two additional words that can be spelled using the letters in the word.
Example: the word pickle can be used to make the words lick, pick, or lip
Alphabetical Order
Put your spelling and Word Wall words in alphabetical order. Count up the syllables in each word.
Spelling Math
Write the spelling and wordwall words on the sheet. Use a calculator to add up and find the valueof each word using the key.
Example: flies 6+12+9+5+19=51
Pretend Typing
Use the“pretend” computer keyboard to practice typing your spelling or wordwall words.
Pipe Cleaners!
Use the pipe cleaners to bend and fold into letters. Try to make your spelling and Word Wall words with the pipe cleaners one at a time.
iPad mini Typing
Use your iPad mini to practice typing the spelling and word wall words.
You have the opportunity to choose a book (at your reading level) to read independently. Decide on what book you would like to read. Find a spot in the classroom where you are comfortable reading. Read quietly to yourself.
