Trimester 1

1. Basic Reading Inventory (all students)
2. LLI test prep unit 1
3. Reading Strategy Review
4. Reading Process review with short story unit
5. LLI 4-6 weeks

Trimester 2

1. Novel study
   1. Skill focus: Main Idea, Summary, Inference, supporting claims with text evidence, theme
2. LLI test prep unit 2
3. BRI (by end of January)
4. LLI 4-6 weeks (January- February)

Trimester 3

1. Close Reading using LLI (Within, Beyond, About text)
2. Novel study- (end February- March)
   1. Skill focus: Figurative language, word choice, form and structure, author’s purpose
3. LLI (April-May)
4. Reader’s Workshop- choice books/reader’s conferences
   1. Skill Focus: Compare/Contrast multiple titles, connections with historical and current events
