My name is Josh Rosen and I have served as the K-6 Mathematics Specialist in Dobbs Ferry since 2006. I am passionate about teaching mathematics, in particular about the different ways that students think and the various ways we can approach the topic. I enjoy working with students, teachers, and parents to help foster a love of mathematics. I am a huge fan of puzzles (KenKen in particular), and I believe math puzzles are a vehicle for developing mathematical competencies such as reasoning and perseverance. In 2012, I was able to go to Japan during the summer to attend a Lesson Study Immersion trip where I was able to see lessons in Japanese schools. Springhurst has participated in Lesson Study, which is a model of collaborative professional development in which teachers plan and teach lessons together. I have always been fascinated by how math is taught around the world and what we can learn from different ideas. In March 2014, I was fortunate to represent New York State and go to Washington, DC to receive the Presidential Award for Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need any support with math related concerns. I am happy to work with all parents, students, and caregivers to help foster a positive view of mathematics.
