"When the World declared Peace" is a visual commemoration recounting 40 years of the Manila Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes. Through photographs and illustrations, the exhibit is an invitation to reflect on a landmark legal framework that undergirds the modern world's pursuit of lasting, sustainable peace.
The exhibit will run from April 21, 2022 to Month XX, 2022 at the Visitor's Lobby of the United Nations Secretariat Building from XXh to XXh.
The Manila Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes gave the legal framework for the peaceful settlement of international disputes: parties in deep dispute, on the verge of open conflict, shall first of all try to settle it by peaceful means.
On the 40th year of the Declaration, we reaffirm our commitment.
We are grateful that the resolution, entitled “Fortieth anniversary of the Manila Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes, an initiative of the Philippines at the Special Committee, was adopted by consensus by the General Assembly.
In 1982, when the Manila Declaration was adopted by consensus, the General Assembly urged that all efforts be made so that the Declaration becomes generally known and fully observed and implemented.
This exhibit is a response to that call.
