Functions
Under OIER, the ERU performs the following functions:
Serve as a fully-functional knowledge center and repository of data and information in all aspects of international economic relations;
Provide technical staff support in the compilation of statistical data and information and collection of reference materials, including research studies that will serve as basis in the conduct of a more effective economic diplomacy;
Provide accurate, relevant and timely. Data in all aspects of international economic and social relations as well as economic knowledge and analyses to the Department and the foreign service posts that will assist in furthering Philippine economic interest abroad;
Streamline and expedite the sharing of information with concerned agencies and various stakeholders;
Provide technical staff support in the conduct of knowledge-enhancement activities to the Department in general, and OUIER personnel in particular that will enable them to have a better appreciation and more comprehensive knowledge of economic developments, and
Provide technical staff support in the development of strong relations and collaboration with economic agencies, development institutions, and the private sector in the Philippines through resource coordination and research networking
ERU prepares and maintains a series of infographics on specific country’s bilateral economic relations with the Philippines. Specific time series infographics on bilateral economic relations, including those with regional cooperation and alliances, are available upon request.
ERU also prepares the Philippine Economy Highlights quarterly and annually circulated to FSPs, providing them the latest statistics on the country’s economic performance for the quarter/year as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the National Economic and Development Authority, the Department of Trade and Industry, and other statistical agencies. ERU also consolidates reports and publications from external sources that may be relevant in aspects of international economic relations.
ERU maintains a list of the economic agreements of the Philippines with other countries, and consolidates available agreements from online sources and DFA offices. Economic agreements featured in this microsite are categorized as follows: trade-related agreements, economic cooperation agreements, investment agreements, double taxation avoidance agreements, bilateral social security agreements, and other areas of cooperation and partnership (such as but not limited to agriculture, air services, culture, development cooperation, energy, tourism, and transport).
