On 13 September 2022, the DFA-Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office, DFA-Ladies Foundation, and the Japan Foundation Manila will celebrate the MANAMo with the children of DFA Day Care Center through a story-telling and origami activity celebrating marine life!

Enhancing awareness of the archipelagic and maritime attributes of the Philippines is about informing the perspective of the Filipinos of how the seas and the maritime industry affect their lives and hopefully stir them towards protecting the sea.
In celebrating MANA Mo we should also be reminded that the development of international and national policies on the protection of our seas are intended for the future of children today. By understanding how everything is connected in the ocean and how we interact with it as humans, children will learn to care for and protect the ocean because they will want it to be a better place – not just for the fish, but for them too.

This story touches on the environmental effects of the growing plastic problem. Told through the perspective of a sea turtle named Pawikan, the book starts with a peaceful, fiesta-like, and lively marine ecosystem, a town where the protagonist lives.
However, a storm struck and Pawikan finds himself stuck in another town filled with plastic waste. The story is similar to the film “Finding Nemo”, but with a scrutinizing view of the effects of the massive irresponsible waste management of humans on land.
