23 JULY 2025 - Consul General Zoilo Velasco welcomed Ms. Wilma Gaspili, known as Ate Wamz, at the Philippine Embassy during her visit to Vienna.
Ms. Gaspili is an indigenous tattoo artist from Benguet who advocates for the revival of the indigenous tattoo arts of the Cordilleras. She travels to share her culture and contribute to the preservation of batek, the traditional tattooing practice of the Igorot. She belongs to the Kankana-ey and Kalanguya tribes of Benguet.
On 22 July 2025, Ate Wamz delivered a lecture on Philippine Indigenous Tattoo Arts at the Vienna International Center (VIC), where an international audience learned about her story and her work in preserving her cultural heritage.
Her visit and lecture were organized by the European Network of Filipino Diaspora (ENFiD) Austria. END.
