PHILIPPINES JOINS COMMEMORATION OF 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF MAUTHAUSEN LIBERATION

11 May 2025. The Philippines joined more than 20,000 participants and delegates to the 80th International Commemoration and Liberation Ceremony at the Mauthausen Memorial in Upper Austria.
Mauthausen was the largest concentration camp in Austria that began in 1938 and was responsible for over 100,000 deaths until its liberation by American troops in 1945 at the end of World War II. The commemoration was led by President Alexander Van Der Bellen. He was joined by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, President Wjosa Osmani of Kosovo, Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler, Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, and other delegates from around the world.
