01 JULY 2025, BRATISLAVA - The rich musical heritage of the Philippines took center stage as Banda Kawayan Pilipinas captivated audience members from around the world at the opening of the 14th International Youth Music Festival at the Klarisky Music Hall Fraska 4 in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
Banda Kawayan Pilipinas, the renowned Filipino ensemble orchestra celebrated for its distinctive use of indigenous, handcrafted bamboo (“kawayan”) instruments, opened the festival with a dynamic and culturally rich repertoire. Clad in vibrant Barong Tagalog for the men and Baro’t Saya for the women, the ensemble delivered a visually stunning and musically compelling performance, showcasing not only Filipino mastery of native instruments but also the seamless fusion of Asian musical traditions with Western classical influences.
Organized by the Bratislava Music Agency, the festival runs from 1 to 4 July 2025 and aims at bringing together young musicians around the world to showcase their talents and culture, and collaborate and establish linkages with musicians alike. The event will also feature musicians from countries such as Australia, Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the United States of America.
Banda Kawayan Pilipinas is set to compete on 3 July 2025 at Slovak Rádio Mytna. The festival is open to the public, and the Philippine Embassy in Vienna extends its best wishes to the ensemble for a successful performance. END.
