Meet Mrs. Nickerson
I LOVE:
- My husband, Kyle, and 1-year old son, Warren
- Learning new things
- Reading all kinds of books - my favorite genres are historic fiction, realistic fiction, and nonfiction
- Using technology to explore and create
- Getting outdoors (hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and camping)
- Being creative (knitting, drawing, sewing, cross-stitching)
- Cooking foods from around the world
- Birds! If I wasn't a teacher, I'd be an ornithologist
- The mountains of Colorado, where part of my family is from
MY LEARNING:
- I went to Vanderbilt University and double-majored in Elementary Education and Natural Sciences
- I got my master's degree from Central Michigan University in Educational Technology
- I am always learning more about teaching, technology, and working with students by reading, researching, and from other teachers!
- I teach other teachers at conferences like miGoogle and the University of Michigan's 4T Virtual Conference
FUN FACTS:
- I was a director of Outdoor Education at YMCA Storer Camps for 5 years before coming to Dexter
- I taught 6th grade for 4 years at Creekside, and was Dexter Schools' Technology Coach for 3 years
- I was a college mascot (Go Commodores!) and won two collegiate mascot championships
- I play the banjo, ukulele, and guitar well enough to play kids' songs, but that's about it!
- I developed Creekside's 6th grade "Winter Survival Day" program
