Welcome to the Wylie Media Center!

In the Wylie Media Center, we read to robot cats!

Last year, the Wylie PTT (Wylie Parents & Teachers Together) provided a generous grant that helped pay for three Joy for All robotic cats to serve as reading buddies. But why robot cats?

Studies have shown that when students read aloud to animals, they can experience a host of benefits, including demonstrating improved literacy skills. As we can't have real cats in our library due to student allergies, robotic cats are the next best thing. Our library cats have light, sound, and touch sensors and respond to student readers by purring, meowing, rubbing their face with a paw, and even rolling over for belly scratches! Students love practicing reading aloud with these cats, and they have become an enjoyable staple of our reading time here in the Wylie Media Center
