Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically role play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a high school or college MUN club.

Leonard Morse and Jacob Williams run the club at Dexter High School. There are two summits during the school year which is held at Southeast Missouri State University where we compete with other schools for awards such as Best Delegate.

For the first time the Dexter R-XI school district is having a high school Model U.N. conference at the Dexter Bearcat Event Center. Civitas Associates based out of St. Louis is the hosting the event. It takes place on March 20th of this year.

The look for Conference day is professional. Men are required slacks, dress shirt, tie, dress shoes, and suit jacket is highly recommended. Women are required to wear slacks or long skirt, blouse, dress shoes.

Proper attire is required to set the tone for the day, please come dressed appropriately. Traditional costume of the country the delegate is representing is considered appropriate attire. Not appropriate – Jeans, sneakers, clothes that may be considered revealing.

This year the Model U.N. committee at SEMO is hosting an essay contest. In your essay, which should be written as a letter to the Secretary General, you should discuss the following: Of the commitments established by the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants (established at a UN Summit in September 2016), which two commitments should be prioritized and executed by the world community (first) as part of the Global Compact that will be proposed and established in 2017
