Annual Book Club Field Trip
Each year, book club students are treated to a morning touring SEMO's Kent Library, including the special collections archive and the Rare Book Room. Students then enjoy lunch at the University Center, followed by a stroll down the Missouri Wall of Fame and a tasty ice cream treat from the Old Town Ice Cream Co. The last stop is the Book Rack, where students are able to make some fun bookish purchases before heading back home to good ol' DHS.
First Chapter Fridays
DHS Book Club meetings are held most every Friday of the school year, beginning at 7:40 AM in the library. At each FCF, one book from the book list is discussed, and one lucky winner receives a copy of that book. Each student in attendance also receives a treat bag at the meeting.
Epsilon Beta is sponsored by the Missouri Association of School Librarians and is a club for high school students interested in the library. Its official name is Episcpoi Tes Bibliothekes: "Keepers of the Library."
The first Epsilon Beta club was started in Washington, MO, in 1931.
The MO Gateway books represent the best current literature available to students in grades 9-12. Every year, committees work to create a list of titles that are read and voted upon by groups of readers in order to create a final list of 15 nominees for the year. These 15 books are read and voted upon by students across MO to determine the recipient of the MASL Readers Award, which is given in the spring.
