Dr. Mark Schaar, a DeWitt graduate (Class of 1976) and primary care physician, has volunteered in the athletic department at DeWitt for more than 35 years. In 1988 he became a mainstay on the sidelines for Thursday night freshman and junior varsity home football games and both home and away varsity football games. In addition, he continues to donate his time providing sports physicals for high school student-athletes. Before competing in contests, the Michigan High School Athletic Association requires each student-athlete to be examined for a sports physical. By providing this service, Dr. Schaar saves families both time and money. This has become a tradition at DeWitt where doctors volunteer their time every year performing sports physicals for over 250 student-athletes. Dr. Schaar is still working full-time as a general practice physician and begins his 37th year on the Panther sidelines this Fall.
