Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more.
The defining feature of quiz bowl is the use of a “buzzer system” that lets players interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. That element adds a dimension of confidence, anticipation, and rapid recall to a game about knowing facts.
Outstanding classwork can be correlated with quiz bowl ability, but not always. Enthusiasm and a willingness to practice and study for quiz bowl can turn almost anyone into an excellent player. Quiz bowl is a team game, so having students with diverse strengths is ideal. If you are curious and like learning, Quiz Bowl might be right for you.
Because of social distancing protocols, we will not meet as frequently during the 2020-2021 school year. Due to Corona, the state has not scheduled official Quiz Bowl tournaments. This gives our new team some extra time to study, practice, and grow. As such, depending on what is permissible, we will meet virtually or in person on Thursdays after school. I will also be giving you resources that will help you study/practice on your own time. Practice times are subject to change due to the unpredictability of our current school year.
