WandaVision Review

by Dylan Aubry, Staff Writer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe sprang back into the mainstream early this year, taking the world by storm with its most unique project yet, WandaVision. With new surprises and questions being added every week, it was the perfect show for fans to watch and theorize on a weekly basis and speculate as to what was coming next. From the reveal of Evan Peters’ cameo as Pietro Maximoff to the reveal of White Vision, fans could not get enough of the show’s mystery and intrigue. And so with the show’s recent finale, there were many questions to be answered by the show. The finale featured an epic showdown between Wanda, in her brand new comic-accurate costume, and Agatha Harkness, who was revealed to be the show’s true villain a few episodes before the finale. Unfortunately, the finale, for many, did not live up to people’s expectations. Many critiqued the show for not including any huge reveals or cameos within the finale. Others said it was not the show’s fault that extremely high fan expectations were not met. However, a fairly widespread belief was that a lot of the intrigue and questions that the show had were far more interesting than the answers given in the finale. Fans immediately pointed to how Peters’ cameo ended up being almost useless other than for a crude joke. This was a huge letdown for viewers as many expected him to be a sign of a multiverse crossover with Fox’s X-Men universe, as Peters’ was known for his remarkable performance as Quicksilver in the X-Men prequel films. In reality, he was just a random character in Westview known by the name of Ralph Bohner. Many also thought that Marvel’s devil character Mephisto or even Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange would show up for the final episode, but alas nothing of the sort happened. The show did have an extremely emotional ending though, with Wanda having to say a heartbreaking goodbye to both of her children as well as the love of her life Vision. But, Marvel did leave us with one final tease toward what’s next for both the Scarlet Witch and the future of the MCU. The final post-credit scene depicted Wanda going through the Darkhold, a book of dark magic that is key to many secrets of the MCU, trying to find a way to get her family back. Overall, the show as a whole was seen as a huge success for Marvel in the eyes of fans everywhere. Regardless of their opinions on the finale, many agree that the show and the ride that it took everyone on was amazing and an unforgettable adventure.
