As the school year begins to pick up, sporting events and school activities are the places to be. With stellar volleyball, football, and tennis teams, the Aztecs are proving themselves to be the school to beat. The coaches and athletes are responsible for their winning league, of course, but the student section provides valuable support. With the roaring crowds, fun outfits, and Aztec pride, this year’s student section is something Palm Desert has never seen before. Led by Aztec Army seniors Bannon Clark, Jeremy Engler, Carter Anderholt, Anthony Bramer, and Alec Weigel, the Army has gotten the students more riled up than ever at games and events, leading Aztec supporters in chants, dress-up days, and game-day festivities.
This year’s growing fanbase and spirit can not only be attributed to the Aztec Army but their social media as well. With a successful Instagram account, students now can stay updated with scores, different school activities, and game schedules. Bannon Clark describes this strategy as a part of the Army’s goal to continually improve and better the student section.
Bannon calls social media the “main way we are trying to improve and grow the student fan base,” saying, “We have gained 600+ new followers combined on Instagram and Twitter. With this, we are encouraging kids to come and support their teams.” Bannon says that the goal for the student section this year is to “be the best, get more people involved, and stay consistent.”
With that mindset, students are proving themselves to be invincible in the stands this year, providing vocal support for their fellow Aztecs. Whether you are on or off the field, support the Aztecs and get involved with the best student section in the Valley. Our Aztec pride is like nothing you have ever seen.
